Niche florals have almost nothing in common with mainstream perfumery florals. Here, the flower is not a pleasant accord added to appeal to everyone: it is a material with a precise, often challenging character that the perfumer uses to say something.

The flowers that matter, and how they behave

Rose changes completely depending on its origin: Damask rose is dense and honeyed, Turkish rose fresher and greener, while Taif rose is almost spicy. Tuberose is the most narcotic flower there is - buttery, almost sensual, and unwilling to compromise. Jasmine has an indolic note reminiscent of skin. Iris, technically a root, brings a dry, cool powdery quality that has become a signature of niche perfumery.

Nishane Thorns Become Roses is the best-selling rose in our selection: lychee and raspberry on top, Turkish rose at the heart, and a woody base. Nasomatto Narcotic Venus remains the definitive tuberose, uncompromising. Filippo Sorcinelli Lascia ch'io pianga brings together gardenia, jasmine, ylang ylang and tuberose in an operatic composition that calls for a certain confidence.

For something brighter: Matin Martin Jameela (orange blossom, blackcurrant, jasmine) and Giardini di Toscana Celeste, an aquatic floral with violet and raspberry. Nishane Meant To Be Seen instead focuses on violet and iris root with modern musks: it is the most contemporary floral we carry.

Floral perfumes for women - and why not only

“Floral perfumes for women” is what we are asked for nine times out of ten, and it makes sense: the family remains predominantly feminine. But Nasomatto Nudiflorum, with rhubarb, raspberry, leather and animalic notes, is worn mostly by men, while Thana Shabab - rose, orange blossom, sandalwood and ambergris - was created as a unisex fragrance.

Which floral perfume is best for someone who does not like flowers?

A woody floral or a musky floral: the flower is there but remains in the background. In our selection, Nishane Meant To Be Seen and Filippo Sorcinelli Rosa Nigra work well for this.

Are floral perfumes also suitable for winter?

Yes, but choose a different flower. In summer, orange blossom, neroli and freesia work well; in winter, tuberose, gardenia and Damask rose, which have more body.

What is the difference between floral and powdery?

Powdery is an effect, not a flower: it comes from iris, heliotrope or musks, creating that sensation of powder and clean skin. Many florals with iris at the heart are perceived as powdery.
