A glass bowl is one of the few objects that works both full and empty: filled with fruit, it serves a purpose; on its own, it's a piece to admire. Here you'll find the lead-free crystal bowls, serving platters and centerpieces.

How they are really used

  • Small bowl — nuts, sauces, olives: the one that gets passed around most at the table.
  • Large bowl — for salad and fruit, or empty on a console table.
  • Serving platter — for serving horizontally, from cheeses to small sweets.
  • Centerpiece — the piece that stays at the center all year, with or without anything inside.

Cast glass and blown glass

The solid, heavy pieces are cast in molds: they have substantial thickness and refract light like a lens. The thin, irregular ones are mouth-blown, and no two are identical. It's not a matter of quality but of design, and you can feel it when you lift them.

Frequently asked questions

Can they be used to serve food?

Yes, lead-free crystal is suitable for contact with food. The only precaution concerns very hot foods, which should be avoided: the glass is not designed to withstand thermal shock, and a cold bowl filled with something just removed from the heat may crack.

How can marks be avoided?

Dry them immediately after washing with a linen or microfiber cloth. The marks are limescale, and they are more visible on highly transparent glass than elsewhere: in hard-water areas, a final rinse with demineralized water is advisable.

Can pieces with a metal base be washed?

The glass is, but the base must be washed by hand and dried immediately: copper and brass stain with harsh detergents, and the PVD coating does not fare well in the dishwasher. These are the pieces worth spending two extra minutes on.

Is every piece identical to the others?

Not entirely, and that's intentional. On mouth-blown pieces and those with hand-applied pigmentation, variations are part of the process: two pieces from the same series may have slightly different shades.
