The women's Timberland we carry in our boutique come in three families: the Premium 6-Inch, the waterproof ankle boot launched in 1973; the Stone Street, the platform line; and boat shoes. Plus one special case, the Junior 6-Inch in sizes 36 to 39, which we also sell as a women's size. Below, you'll find how each one fits according to our Timberland size guide, and when the Junior is really worth choosing.

Premium 6-Inch: the yellow boot and its variations

This is the construction that made the ankle boot famous: Premium Timberland leather upper with sealed seams, 200-gram PrimaLoft insulation, ReBOTL lining with at least 50% recycled plastic, Anti-Fatigue footbed, and leather from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries. Here, waterproofing is not a surface treatment but a result of the sealed seams.

Beyond the wheat yellow nubuck, we carry three distinct versions. The yellow polished leather is the most city-ready option, and can be cleaned with a cloth. The leopard-print pony hair combines nubuck and shaved cowhide with an animal print. The wheat nubuck has gold eyelets, a padded collar and heavier insulation: 400-gram PrimaLoft. Nubuck is stiff at first and softens with wear: for the first outings, wear the right sock, not a thin one.

Stone Street: Timberland with a platform sole

If you're looking for platform Timberland, this is the line to consider. The Stone Street 6-Inch comes in camel-brown suede with coffee-colored details and a chunky sole. The Stone Street Mid is made from Premium leather, with a shaft that can be worn high or folded down and an OrthoLite Impressions memory foam footbed. The Mid Warm Lined is the most winter-ready: waterproof, warmly lined, with a 5-centimetre heel, a 4-centimetre platform and a 14-centimetre shaft.

Then there are the Stone Street boat shoes with a platform sole, made from Premium leather, with synthetic suede lining and an OrthoLite footbed: the classic boat shoe raised by a few centimetres. The platform changes how they all wear: it adds height without a true heel, and works with wide-leg trousers that tend to cover the shoe on the classic 6-Inch.

The Junior 6-Inch: when it fits like a women's style

The Premium 6-Inch Junior has the same shape, the same yellow color and the same waterproof construction with sealed seams and 200-gram PrimaLoft. Two things differ: the footbed is EVA instead of the adults' Anti-Fatigue footbed, and the size scale.

Up to size 38, the two charts match, so anyone who wears sizes 36 to 38 can choose the Junior in their usual size. At 39, they diverge: the Junior is indicated for a 24-centimetre foot, while the women's size is for 25. If you wear a true 39, it's better to stick with the adult version. The Junior's forefoot width is not published, so we cannot guarantee the fit on a wide foot: in that case, write to us before ordering.

Which size to choose

Our guide's answer is: it depends on the model. The 6-Inch Premium fits generously, so if you are between sizes, choose the smaller one; many people go down half a size from their usual sneaker size. Boat shoes fit snugly and precisely: choose your usual size, and size up only if you have a wide foot. Timberland produces some models in two widths, M and W, shown on the product page.

How do you clean Timberland nubuck?

Clean it dry, with a rubber brush. Remove a water stain by dampening the entire surface evenly and letting it dry away from heat sources; treating only the spot leaves a ring.
