Beak Purple Wine Carafe
A decanter serves two purposes: oxygenating the wine and removing sediment. A carafe is for bringing it to the table and keeping water cool without a plastic bottle. Here you'll find both, in hand-worked lead-free crystal.
How to choose
- Wide-base decanter - maximum surface area in contact with the air: for young, closed reds.
- Narrow decanter - less oxygenation, more control: for old wines, which are sensitive to air.
- Carafe with a marble base - keeps water cool without ice, so it isn't diluted.
- Water carafe - the one that stays on the table every day: what matters is that it pours well.
Why lead-free crystal
Traditional crystal contains lead oxide, which gives it weight and brilliance but isn't ideal for prolonged contact. NUDE works with lead-free crystal: the same transparency and resonance, without the problem. It can be used every day.
The rest of the tableware
On the same table, you'll find wine glasses, crystal glasses, and whisky glasses. All the branded crystalware is in NUDE, and the complete range in the home section.
Frequently asked questions
How often should wine be decanted?
Not all wines benefit from it. Young, tannic reds gain a great deal from half an hour in the decanter; old reds should be decanted carefully and drunk immediately; whites generally don't need decanting - with the exception of some macerated and structured whites.
What's the difference between a carafe and a decanter?
The decanter is designed for oxygenation: a wide base, narrow neck, and shape that makes the wine circulate. The carafe is for serving - water, wine, juices - and prioritizes pouring and capacity. Both can be used at the table, but they serve different purposes.
Can they be washed in the dishwasher?
The information is provided on each model's product page; where it isn't, write to us and we'll request it. In general, for pieces with a marble or wooden base, we recommend hand washing, because it's the supporting material that suffers, not the glass.
How do you dry a decanter inside?
Upside down on a suitable stand, never with a cloth tucked into the neck, as it leaves lint and can cause scratches. If limescale marks remain, rinsing with water and white vinegar removes them without detergent.
