Moon Boot · Après-ski boots · Authorized retailer
The Moon Boot is the quintessential après-ski boot: it was created in 1969, the year of the moon landing, and its design has remained the same, with a padded shaft, rubber sole and large logo on the band. Here you'll find the styles available in our boutique: the high Icon Glance, the Icon Low with its platform, and the children's versions. Below, we explain the detail that confuses almost everyone making their first purchase: the size ranges.
Après-ski boots, not ski boots
The name says it all: après-ski boots are put on when you take off your ski boots, for walking around the village, on packed snow, between the lodge and the hotel. They are not hiking footwear and do not claim to be. What they do is keep your feet warm when standing still and on short walks, with an insulated construction and a sole designed for packed snow. For the same reason, they work in the city during the coldest weeks, under a short down jacket or a long coat.
Icon Glance: the high boot
This is the Moon Boot everyone has in mind. We have it in the metallic shades platinum and silver, and in black. Like every Icon, it has a universal construction: there is no right or left boot; the two pieces are identical. The toe and heel counter are reinforced, the lining is textile, and the sole is rubber.
At the top of the shaft is a lace with a stopper. Moon Boot recommends not tightening or removing it: on the Icon, it serves primarily an aesthetic purpose, and pulling it hard does not change the fit.
Icon Low with platform: the everyday version
The Icon Low cuts off at the ankle and adds a 6-centimeter platform. Here, the laces really fasten: the classic lacing gives a more precise fit than the high-top, and the rubber sole has suction cups. We have it in platinum and silver Glance and black nylon, with its dust bag.
If you ask us which pair to choose for the city, we say the low-top. The high-top is more for the mountains; the low-top works with straight-leg jeans or wide-leg trousers that fall over it, and blends in more easily with the rest of your wardrobe. If you prefer a shearling effect to nylon, the alternative is women's UGGs.
Size ranges explained
Moon Boot does not sell individual sizes, but size ranges: 35/38, 39/41, and so on. The boot is roomy, padded, and the same for both feet, so the sock determines the difference between a 37 and a 38. However, not all model families have the same size ranges, and that’s where mistakes happen: for the Icon, the first adult range is 35/38; for the Icon Low, the same interval is split into 33/35 and 36/38.
| EU size range | Model | UK | US women’s | Threshold in cm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 33/35 | Icon Low | 1–2,5 | 3–4,5 | 22,5 |
| 35/38 | Icon | 2,5–5 | 4,5–7 | 23 |
| 36/38 | Icon Low | 3,5–5 | 5,5–7 | 23 |
| 39/41 | Icon and Icon Low | 6–7,5 | 8–9,5 | 25,5 |
| 42/44 | Icon and Icon Low | 8–9,5 | 10–11,5 | 27,5 |
| 45/47 | Icon and Icon Low | 10,5–12 | 12,5–14 | 29,5 |

How to read the centimeter column. Moon Boot recommends measuring the foot from heel to big toe and choosing the size range with a value equal to or greater than the measurement. That number is a threshold, not the length of a size 38 foot: for a 23.5-centimeter foot, the 35/38 range is already too small, and the brand’s rule points to 39/41. Measure at the end of the day, wearing the socks you plan to use. For other brands, see our size converter.
Moon Boot for kids
For children, the size ranges are 23/26, 27/30, and 31/34, with thresholds of 15.5, 19.5, and 22.5 centimeters, and the rule is the same: measure the foot and choose the same or next size range up. For a foot that grows during the winter, the wider range is an advantage.
The Little Yeti is white, tall, and lace-free: it simply slips on, which matters more than any technical detail for little ones. The Icon Junior Unicorn has eyes, ears, and a rainbow coat. The satin Icon Glance Kid is the glossy version of the Icon, in the same platinum shade as the adult model. The rest of the winter footwear is in girls’ shoes and boys’ shoes.
How to clean them
Moon Boot’s care instructions for the nylon Icon are simple. Remove dirt with a soft, dry brush, stains with a soft cloth dampened with water and mild detergent, and clean the sole with a brush, water, and detergent. Then let it air-dry at room temperature, away from radiators and heaters, and store it in its bag or a protective case.
The most surprising advice is a warning: no waterproofing sprays or water-repellent treatments. The brand states this clearly, as they can permanently damage the material. The same applies to leather, shearling and suede: use a dry brush and a barely damp cloth, and never submerge them. Moon Boot doesn’t publish separate care instructions for Glance finishes or satin; to be safe, follow the same advice, and contact us before trying to remove a stubborn stain.
If you’re building your seasonal wardrobe, our autumn-winter boots guide places snow boots alongside other styles, and you’ll find everything else in our women’s boots collection.
Frequently asked questions
What size Moon Boot should I get?
Measure your foot from heel to the tip of your big toe and choose the size range with a centimetre threshold equal to or greater than your measurement, as Moon Boot recommends: 23 cm for 35/38 and 25.5 cm for 39/41 in the Icon. Note that sizing varies by model: in the Icon Low, the first adult range is split into 33/35 and 36/38.
Are Moon Boots waterproof?
They’re designed for snow, with an insulated construction and rubber sole, but the product pages we have don’t state that they’re waterproof, so we can’t promise that they are. They’re suitable for dry snow; for heavy rain, a leather boot with sealed seams, such as the Timberland Premium 6-Inch, is a better choice.
Can Moon Boots be machine washed?
Moon Boot recommends hand cleaning only: use a soft brush, a damp cloth with mild detergent, and let them dry at room temperature. There are no washing machine instructions, and we don’t recommend it. Avoid waterproofing sprays too, as the brand says they can damage the material.
Is there a right and a left Moon Boot?
No. The Icon and Icon Low have a universal construction: the two boots are identical and interchangeable. That’s also why they’re sold in size ranges rather than individual sizes.
Are there Moon Boots for men?
Moon Boot’s adult sizing is the same for men and women, with size ranges up to 42/44 and 45/47. The available ranges are listed on each product page; if you’re looking for a size you can’t see, get in touch.
How do I choose a size range for a child?
Use the same rule as for adults: measure the foot and choose the size range with a threshold equal to or greater than the measurement. The official thresholds are 15.5 cm for 23/26, 19.5 cm for 27/30 and 22.5 cm for 31/34.
