Six fragrances, all priced at either 159 or 169 euros, all unisex. Thana is an Arabic house, and its Magic Elixir Collection is built around a single idea: fragrances that can be sensed from a distance and remain on the skin at the end of the day. This is not discreet perfumery, and it does not aim to be.
The six
Mutheer opens with Turkish rose, cinnamon and incense: it is the warmest of the group. Shabab works with rose, orange blossom and blackcurrant, fresher at the opening and just as long-lasting in the dry-down. Dhuaf is the darkest, while Sarmadi is the most magnetic on wood. Iftitan sits in the middle and is the one we recommend to anyone approaching this style for the first time. Tiryaq, at 159 euros, is the only one at a lower price and is also the most spiritual in its composition.
The families
Four out of six belong to the woody family, three to the spicy family, and two to the floral family. The notes that recur most often are cinnamon, patchouli, rose and vanilla: if you already enjoy one of these, that is where to start.
An honest warning
These are extraits with a significant sillage. If you work in a small office or are bothered by long-lasting fragrances, this is not the right house for you: take a look instead at the citrus fragrances or white musk. If that is exactly what you are looking for, you will find it here.
Where to look alongside them
The full catalogue is in the niche perfumery section: 217 references, almost all unavailable through mass retail. The Spirit of Dubai and Electimuss also work in this same style.
Questions we are often asked
Are they original? We are an authorised retailer: every bottle arrives sealed from the house.
Can I try them first? Yes, in the boutique in Roccapiemonte, where we keep them open on the counter. Write to us if you would like us to set one aside for you.
What about shipping and returns? Free shipping on orders over 149 euros, so all of these qualify. Free returns within 30 days, provided the bottle has not been opened.
