1. The long wool coat with a soft shoulder
It's the season's defining style, recognizable by two details. The length falls below the knee, and the shoulder is unstructured: it drapes softly instead of ending in a square shape. There's a practical reason behind it as well as an aesthetic one, and we often repeat it at the counter: a long coat also covers your dress, so it solves your eveningwear needs without making you change.

2. The double-breasted coat is back, and this time it’s roomy
This year’s double-breasted coat is not the narrow, military-style version of previous years. It’s roomier, with larger lapels and more generous shoulders, and can be worn open or closed. It’s the piece that makes even jeans and a sweater look elegant.
For women, the reference is Tartina by MM Max Mara, a double-breasted wool cloth coat: the quintessential classic coat, one that never goes out of fashion because it doesn’t chase it. How to choose (the boutique’s advice)
The rule that gets it wrong least often: choose a coat based on the day you’ll wear it most, not the coldest day of the year. A good wool coat can be worn from October to March; for the two weeks of truly freezing weather, there’s always a puffer.
Three checks to make in store, or as soon as the package arrives: the shoulder should follow yours and not extend more than a finger's width beyond it; with a jacket underneath, your arms should lift without pulling across the back; the length should work with the shoes you will actually wear, not the ones you're wearing that day.
