Mou: the boot with the visible stitching, and the rest of the brand
Mou is one of those brands recognized by a single detail: the thick visible stitching that runs along the boot's edge, made by hand and deliberately left irregular. It is the opposite of industrial finishing, and it is why a pair of Mou boots looks like no other shearling boot.
The Eskimo, and why it costs what it costs
The Eskimo boot is the model that established the brand. Shearling inside and out, a stitched sole, and that contrasting stitching applied by hand one pair at a time: this is genuine craftsmanship, visible in the fact that no two pairs are ever identical.
Anyone comparing it with a mass-market shearling boot immediately notices two differences. The first is the weight of the leather, which is more substantial. The second is how it ages: the Eskimo softens and takes the shape of the foot instead of losing its structure, and after two seasons it looks better than when it was new.
Winter Bio Slides: the ones people buy more than the others
The Winter Bio line - slippers and slides lined with shearling, with crocheted wool details - has become the part of the brand's catalogue we sell most, and from November onward it is the most requested Christmas gift in the category.
The reason is simple, and our customers tell us so: they are the only slippers you are willing to be seen wearing. The slide version can also be worn outdoors, which is why we keep it with the shoes rather than among the accessories.
How to choose your size
The shearling lining gives way during the first few weeks, and this is the most important thing to know before ordering: a Mou boot that feels comfortable on the first day will feel loose after a month. An initially snug fit is therefore preferable to a soft one.
If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller one for the Eskimo. For the Slides, the opposite applies, because they are worn with socks and have neither laces nor elastic to adjust the fit. If in doubt, send us your foot length in centimetres: you will find it explained in our size converter.
One honest thing about shearling. It cannot withstand heavy rain, and no treatment truly makes it waterproof. It is perfectly suited to dry snow and cold weather; not to a downpour. If you need a shoe for rainy weather, take a look instead at a waterproof ankle boot - we discuss it in the Timberland collection.
How to wear them
The Eskimo works with trousers tucked inside, never over the top: the stitching is the reason you buy it, so covering it would be a waste. With straight-leg jeans and a long coat, it is the combination we see most often, and the one that is hardest to get wrong.
The slides and slippers are worn with the sock visible, often thick and in a contrasting colour. It is the only way a slipper worn outdoors makes sense: deliberately visible, not hidden.
The rest of the collection
Alongside its winter styles, the brand produces sneakers in suede with the same visible stitching, as well as a summer line of sandals and EVA slides. They are different products that share the same idea of craftsmanship, and you will find them here all year round.

Frequently asked questions
Do Mou boots run large or small?
True to size, with one caveat: they are shoes without laces or fastenings, so the fit cannot be corrected afterwards. Those with a high instep may find the Eskimo tighter than expected during the first few days; this is when it is especially worth trying it on in person or writing to us before ordering.
Can Mou boots get wet?
Only a little. Shearling withstands cold and dry snow but not heavy rain, and no treatment makes it truly waterproof. If they get wet, dry them away from heat sources, which would harden the leather.
What sets Mou apart from other shearling boots?
The visible stitching along the edge, applied by hand one pair at a time and deliberately left irregular, and the weight of the leather, which is more substantial than that of industrially produced boots. These are also the two reasons for the difference in price.
How do you clean Mou boots and Slides?
Dry-clean them, using a rubber brush for the suede and a barely damp cloth for the leather parts. Treat stains with a suede eraser, never with soap and water. A protective spray before first use makes a difference throughout the season.
