What to give a woman when you don’t know her size

The problem when choosing a gift is rarely the budget: it’s the size. That’s why this selection focuses on things that don’t come in a size: bags and clutches, wallets and card holders, scarves and stoles, one-size-fits-all beanies, jewelry, fragrances, and creams. The exception is UGG and Mou slippers and slides, which we keep on this page only while nearly all sizes are available: you just need to know her shoe size. Fragrance, if you know what she wears

Don’t give her something you like: start with the fragrance family of a scent you’ve seen her wear. If she wears something sweet, browse our gourmand fragrances; if she loves florals, try our floral fragrances; if she prefers clean, understated scents, look at our white musk fragrances. Without a reference, a base of musk or light woods is the safest choice. Before choosing, it’s worth knowing how to read a fragrance pyramid. Fragrances and creams can only be returned if they are still sealed.

A bag, if you know her style

A bag doesn’t come in a size either, but it’s best given to someone you know well: color and size matter more than the brand. A small crossbody for evenings out, or a soft shopper for someone who carries everything with her. If you always see the same worn-out bag at home, give her a well-made replacement. A small gift for a friend or colleague

This is the hardest price range, because it’s easy to choose something generic. Our customers often choose key rings and bag charms: things someone touches every day. One-size-fits-all beanies and body or hand creams are also popular.

For your girlfriend or wife

For someone you live with, the rule that works best is to give an upgraded version of something she already uses: a wallet that’s coming apart or a felted scarf. For a new relationship, it’s better to choose something that doesn’t require knowing her habits, such as a piece of jewelry or a bag charm.

If the gift comes in a size

Clothing and shoes are the easiest gifts to get wrong: even if you guess the size, the fit varies from brand to brand. If it has to be a garment, ask someone who knows her size and check our size guides. In Italy, returns are free within 30 days of delivery, and the first size or color exchange is free, provided the right size is available.
