Beauty · Niche Perfumery

Niche perfumery is a different craft from mass-market retail. It is not about the name on the bottle but what is inside: more expensive raw materials, higher concentrations, small production runs and perfumers who sign their compositions as an author would. We carry over one hundred and fifty, and it is the department we have studied most closely.

How to browse this selection

There are two ways to search for a fragrance, and we have built both. The first is by olfactory family: woody, oriental, floral, aromatic, gourmand, spicy, citrusy, leather. This is how perfumers classify fragrances, and it is useful when you already know what kind of scent you are looking for.

The second is by ingredient, and at the counter it is the approach almost everyone uses: no one says «I am looking for an oriental», everyone says «something with vanilla». We have mapped the raw materials one by one — vanilla, rose, oud, jasmine, white musk, sandalwood, patchouli, tuberose, lavender, tobacco, cinnamon — checking that the material is genuinely in the top or heart notes, rather than buried at the bottom of a list of twenty notes.

Why you will not find a men's and a women's department

Because niche perfumery does not work that way, and pretending otherwise would be misleading you. The houses we carry compose fragrances, not men's fragrances: the same bottle works on different skin and changes depending on who wears it. In Middle Eastern perfumery, to give the clearest example, rose is a masculine note - and around twenty of our woody fragrances contain rose.

The two pages men's beauty and women's beauty exist for those looking for a starting point, and they are two different paths through the same selection - not two separate catalogues.

The houses

Nishane is the Istanbul house that brought Turkish niche perfumery to Europe and is the most widely represented in our selection. Nasomatto and Orto Parisi are Alessandro Gualtieri's two projects, created by the perfumer who turned boldness into a method. Filippo Sorcinelli comes from sacred art and organ music, and his fragrances tell that story.

Pesade works with equestrianism and leather, Giardini di Toscana with gourmand fragrances, The Spirit of Dubai and Matin Martin with the Arab tradition of oud and resins, and Electimuss with Roman imagery.

Beyond fragrance

The department is not only about fragrances: there are body and hand creams, soaps, and home fragrances - diffusers and candles, which are the natural bridge to the home.

Why buy from us

We are an authorised retailer of every house we carry: fragrances arrive sealed, in the house's original packaging. And if you do not know where to start, write to us: customers ask us this question at the counter every day, and answering it is the best part of the job.

If the three lines of notes on the product page look like a list rather than a sequence, we have explained how to read them: the fragrance pyramid, and how to use it to choose.

Frequently asked questions

What is a niche fragrance?

It is a fragrance produced outside mass-market retail, in limited runs, with more expensive raw materials and higher concentrations. Niche houses work around the perfumer's signature rather than a fashion brand licence, which makes their compositions more distinctive and less designed for a mass audience.

What is the difference between eau de parfum and extrait de parfum?

The concentration of essences. Eau de parfum generally ranges from 15 to 20%, while extrait de parfum starts at 20% and can be considerably higher in some cases. Extrait lasts longer and stays closer to the skin; eau de parfum projects more in the first few hours. It is not a quality scale: they are two different ways of wearing fragrance.

Are niche fragrances unisex?

Almost always, and that is a defining feature of the category. Houses compose fragrances without assigning them to a gender: the same composition changes depending on the wearer's skin. Our men's and women's pages are two ways to choose, not two separate catalogues.

How do you choose a niche fragrance without trying it?

Start with what you already like: if you know a fragrance suits you, look for its family and main notes, then explore from there by similarity. That is why every product page includes the complete fragrance pyramid and links to the family and ingredients. If you are unsure, write to us with the name of a fragrance you love: from there, we know where to guide you.

Are they genuine?

Yes. We are an authorised retailer of the houses we carry, and every fragrance arrives sealed, in the house's original packaging.
